Failure of machine known as "compactor" led to Navy incident involving Jason Chee

Preliminary investigations show that failure of a machine known as a "contractor" led to the Navy incident involving Military Expert Jason Chee.

All compactors on Landing Ship Tanks and other ships have been replaced.

Mr Chee was injured in December when he got caught between a motorised winch and a rope on the warship RSS Endeavour at Changi Naval Base.

He lost both his legs and an arm.

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said investigations are still ongoing, and that he will address the issue in Parliament.

Dr Ng was asked about Mr Chee today by the media while touring a recreational club for military servicemen in Toa Payoh.

He said the Singapore Armed Forces will be there with Mr Chee through the next milestone of recovery, which is for him to live independently.
