The sports fraternity submitted on Monday the forms for Dr Ben Tan to be its Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP).
Dr Tan, a former national sailor, was nominated by the vice-president of the Singapore National Olympic Council and chair of the International Olympic Committee's finance commission Ng Ser Miang. The second nominator was Ms Jessie Phua, president of Singapore Bowling Federation.
Dr Tan says he would not have nominated himself if Mr Ng had not approached him.
He added that if selected, he would hope to strengthen the sports industry and encourage physical activity, among others.
Previously, Dr Tan had said that he recognised the need to build on what current NMP Nicholas Fang and others before him have done in representing the views of the sports community in Parliament.
