Ex-MP Choo Wee Khiang on trial for criminal breach of trust

The trial of former Member of Parliament Choo Wee Khiang started today, with the prosecution bringing up Mr Choo's role in a conspiracy to secure payment for a trainer who was "moonlighting".

The 58-year-old faces one count of criminal breach of trust allegedly committed in 2005 when he was President of the Singapore Table Tennis Association.

Three other charges of corruption have been stood down and will be dealt with separately at a later date.

Mr Choo is accused of conspiring with the association's former high-performance manager Koh Li Ping to use proceeds from a 2004 contract to pay one of their assistant coaches a total of 8,400 dollars for coaching at Fuhua Secondary School.
