Education Minister Heng Swee Keat: Singapore's education system is in a position of strength, but more can be done
Singapore's education system is in a position of strength, where Singaporean students have traditionally fared well in international tests.
But, Education Minister Heng Swee Keat said more can be done.
He said in order for future challenges to be tackled, Singapore's changing landscape has to be taken into account.
Mr Heng said Singaporeans' expectations and aspirations are also higher than before.
This balance would be hard to achieve given that Singapore's education system faces complex challenges from stress, tuition and exams.
Mr Heng said there are no easy answers.
And he has heard concerns from parents and students that the education system is too focused on exams and grades.
