Easier to get FDW Grant as GPs & family docs can now endorse applications

Easier to get FDW Grant as GPs & family docs can now endorse applications

It'll now be easier for families to apply for the Foreign Domestic Worker (FDW) Grant to offset the cost of looking after the disabled and the elderly,

The government will accept applications that are endorsed by any doctor registered with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC).

Before this, it only accepted applications endorsed by a panel of doctors appointed to assess whether an applicant needs help or supervision in carrying out certain daily activities.
The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), which announced the change on Monday (Jan 14), said applicants can go to any SMC-registered doctor for the assessment.

They should contact the doctor first to ensure that such a service is available.

As of 2012, over 2,000 families have benefited from the FDW Grant - of $120 a month.

Acting Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing said: "Prior to this, we received feedback that it would be more convenient if one could approach their family doctor to do the ADL assessment. With this enhancement, we hope that more will find it more convenient now to apply for the FDW Grant."
