SINGAPORE: The driver of a Mercedes lost control of his car while reversing at the car park of Block 102 at Yishun Avenue 5 on Monday morning.

The Mercedes crashed into a Toyota Camry in the car park, mounted the pavement and continued onto the common area between some shophouses and a food centre.

It crashed into two stalls.

Eyewitnesses said the car was speeding.

"I see the car come here, ’go stun’ (reversed) very fast," an eyewitness told Channel NewsAsia.

CCTV footage obtained from a nearby shop showed the Mercedes in reverse, with the driver’s door open, hitting several goods stocked outside the shops.

It also hit a newspaper shop owner, a passer—by and a woman believed to be a childcare centre teacher.

Eyewitnesses said the teacher was flung a short distance.

Madam Hoo, a shop owner, said two elderly passers—by also injured themselves when they fell as a result of the incident.

The five victims were sent to the nearby Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

One of the victims is now in a high dependency ward, one in a general ward, while the others have been discharged.

The 65—year—old driver is helping police with investigations.
