Crane safety to be tightened
Construction cranes here may have to be fitted with "black boxes" as a safety requirement.
Known as data loggers, the device can produce data to show how many times operators overload their cranes - and by how much.
This was revealed at the third Crane Safety Symposium today.
The Manpower Ministry is currently holding a pilot trial, before deciding if such devices should be made compulsory.
A study also is underway to find out the root causes of accidents involving crawler cranes at worksites.
Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Manpower Hawazi Daipi announced this today at the symposium.
Led by a workgroup made up of representatives from the crawler cranes industry and end users, the study will be finalised in the coming months.
