Committee to review homicide laws to submit recommendations
A committee has been tasked to review homicide laws and treatment of mentally-disabled offenders in Singapore.
It's expected to present its recommendations in the next few months.
Law Minister K Shanmugam gave this update at the Criminal Law Conference today.
He said some reforms under consideration are - rationalising the overall homicide framework, including refining the definition of murder as well as dealing with deaths caused in the course of violent group crime.
Mr Shanmugam added that the Ministry is working with the Attorney-General's Chambers to study a formalised framework of negotiations - or what is currently recognised as plea bargaining - between prosecutors and defence lawyers.
