Commercial, violent crimes up in 2013
More commercial crimes and violent or serious property crimes were committed in 2013.
According to the Police's annual crime statistics Commercial crimes went up by 10.6 per cent - to 3,880 cases last year.
Violent and serious crimes went up by 4.4 per cent, to 406.
However, overall, crimes committed last year fell by 4.3 per cent, registering some 29,700 cases.
This is the lowest in 30 years.
Housebreaking and related crimes, theft and related crimes, miscellaneous crimes and crimes against persons fell.
Police say an area of concern is scams in cyberspace.
They says cheating and related offences in cyberspace have increased.
Police say these crimes are oftern preventable and Internet users are urged to exercice vigilance.
Another area of concern is crimes involving youths.
Although the overall number of youths arrested has fallen, the number arrested for rioting has gone up 18 per cent.
The Police say they're monitoring this trend closely and will continue to partner relevant agencies and stakeholdets to tackle youth crime in a holistic manner.
