SINGAPORE: The Committee of Inquiry (COI) into the Little India Riot will submit its report and recommendations to Minister of Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean by the end of June.
A statement from the COI Secretariat on Tuesday (June 10) said Deputy Prime Minister Teo had accepted the committee's request for a two-week extension to prepare its report.
The COI had said it wanted to go through testimonies and other relevant information, as it had conducted further inquiry after a five-week public hearing which ended in March. This includes interviews on June 3 with some people convicted for involvement in the December 8, 2013 riot. At least nine people have been convicted of various offences linked to the riot so far.
More than 90 people had been called up to testify during the public hearing into Singapore's worst riot in four decades. - CNA/ly
