China pandas ready for big move to S'pore

Giant pandas Kai Kai and Jia Jia are all ready for their move to Singapore.

A farewell ceremony was held for them at the Chengdu panda base earlier this afternoon.

A truck will transport the pair to the airport.

The cargo plane will take off from Chengdu airport at 2am tomorrow.

It will be their first long distance trip and extra care is being taken to ensure they are comfortable.

Ninety kilograms of bamboo shoots has been prepared for the journey.

A panda eats an average of 20 kilograms of bamboo a day.

Four zoo keepers, two each from Singapore and China, will take turns to care for the pandas while a vet from Wildlife Reserves Singapore will monitor the pandas' health during the 6-hour flight.
