SINGAPORE: Singapore’s National Taxi Association has urged authorities to take action to deter errant customers who assault drivers and evade fares.
The association said it is dismayed with recent assault incidents on taxi drivers by passengers and fare evasions.
It is asking the Land Transport Authority and Traffic Police to prosecute such customers so that a message of strong deterrence can be sent.
The association said in cases of disputes, taxi drivers and passengers are encouraged to resolve the situation through the relevant authorities and taxi companies, instead of taking the law into their own hands.
The association said it is providing the necessary assistance to help taxi drivers who have been involved in disputes.
