Building and Construction Authority introduces new measures to raise productivity in the construction sector

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has introduced new measures to raise productivity in the construction sector.

Senior Minister of State for National Development Lee Yi Shyan announced this in Parliament today.

He said BCA will raise the minimum buildability and constructability requirements for all new projects.

Architects, engineers and contractors will have to meet a higher minimum buildability and constructability score, which will go up by 3 points each in July this year.

It will be raised by another 2 points in July 2014.

To improve their buildability score, architects and engineers will have to design a building such that it requires less manpower to construct.

Contractors will also have to adopt more labour efficient construction techniques and processes to improve their constructability score.
