BSEP update for second quarter of 2014

BSEP update for second quarter of 2014

In an update on the Bus Service Enhancement Programme in the second quarter of this year, the Land Transport Authority, SBS Transit and SMRT say the programme has led to less crowding, shorter waiting time and better connectivity.

As of 30 June, 361 government-funded buses have been added to introduce new routes and enhance services.

Between April and June, bus service 11 was extended, and 3 new bus services from residential areas to the central business district were introduced.

By September, another two new routes in Hougang and Punggol will be launched.

Additional buses were deployed during peak hours and 240 weekly peak-hour bus trips were added.

In addition, public transport operators have improved 12 bus services by deploying higher capacity buses or adding more bus trips along sectors that experience heavy ridership.

Selected bus services serving Punggol and Bukit Panjang residents now run at shorter intervals during peak periods, and more feeder bus services are being introduced to bring residents in the heartlands to bus interchanges or MRT stations.
