SINGAPORE: A book to recognise the contributions of Singapore’s former Mufti of the Islamic Religious Council MUIS was launched on Tuesday evening.

Written by Syed Zakir Hussain, the 200—page book details some of the contributions made by Syed Isa Semait when he was the top Islamic religious leader.

Syed Isa held the position as Mufti for almost four decades.

Among his many contributions was the release of fatwa which led to Muslims being included in the Human Organ Transplant Act (HOTA).

He also paved way to foster friendships with leaders of various faiths in Singapore.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister—in—charge of Muslim Affairs Yaacob Ibrahim were also present to witness the launch.

Mr Lee was then presented with an autographed book of Syed Isa.

Costing $40 each, the book is available at all major bookstores.
