SINGAPORE: Some 1,700 blood donors in Singapore were honoured on Saturday as part of the celebrations for World Blood Donor Day.

The theme ’Every Blood Donor a Hero’ is dedicated to thanking the donors for their gift of life.

Minister of State for Health Dr Amy Khor presented awards to regular blood donors — 42 Champion of Champion donors and nine Medal for Life winners.

Some of whom have donated their blood hundreds of times over their lifetime.

One of them is Medal for Life award recipient Mr Philip Tan, who has donated blood more than 200 times since he was 18 years old and Ms Angie Al—Johary, the only female blood donor in the Champion of Champions awards category who has donated blood 125 times over more than 30 years.

World Blood Donor Day is marked on June 14 worldwide.
