Blogger Roy Ngerng sacked by employer TTSH
Tan Tock Seng Hospital says it has terminated its employment contract with Roy Ngerng with immediate effect today.
In a statement, the hospital says this was on the grounds of conduct incompatible with the values and standards expected of employees.
The hospital adds that Mr Ngerng had also been warned for misusing working time, hospital computers and facilities for personal pursuits and non-job-related interests.
Mr Ngerng is a patient coordinator at the Communicable Disease Centre who has been employed on a yearly contract with the hospital for the past two years.
In a statement, the Health Ministry says it supports the hospital's decision as Mr Ngerng's actions show a lack of integrity and are incompatible with the values and standards of behaviour expected of hospital employees
Commenting on his sacking, Mr Ngerng says in a Facebook post today that he had been "expecting" it.
He says the stress of the court case has made it "difficult" for him to concentrate on his job.
And though his supervisors have been patient, Mr Ngerng acknowledged they also have a responsibility to uphold and he respects that.
However Mr Ngerng later posted another comment, saying he had wanted to give his employer the benefit of the doubt, but "the truth of the matter is that (his) sacking is politically motivated."
