Bizad Charity Run raises S$175,000 with record participation

SINGAPORE: A record S$175,000 was raised at the Bizad Charity Run this year.

The event is organised by the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Business School Alumni Association.

Minister of State for Trade and Industry Teo Ser Luck flagged off the event, which saw a record 1,000 participants this year.

Apart from the new 10—kilometre competitive event and the five—km fun run, wheelchair participants also got to go through a special three—km route.

They were guided by participants from The New Charis Mission, an organisation that helps former drug addicts and offenders re—integrate into society.

Teo Ser Luck, the minister of state for trade and industry, said: "We should encourage the alumni and the students to come together, to do something worthwhile, a good cause for the community. Sports is one way to bring everyone together, and a run is very simple and has the highest participation rate and that way I think they can raise funds a lot more than golf, isn’t it?"

S$125,000 will go towards student bursaries and S$50,000 will be donated to the Assumption Pathway School, Society for the Physically Disabled and The New Charis Mission.
