BCA says engineers certify JEM safe to re-open
The Building and Construction Authority has allowed JEM Shopping Mall to re-open the affected area where a false ceiling had collapsed.
The collapse last month was caused by an overload of the ceiling support system following the build-up of water from a burst water pipe.
JEM shopping mall will open tomorrow (02/09) after a two-week closure following the incident.
Engineers engaged by the building owner have inspected the pipework system and certified that it is safe for operational use.
They also confirmed that the design of the ceiling systems is sound.
The BCA and PUB have also conducted inspections at the affected area of the mall and are satisfied that rectification works have been completed.
