SINGAPORE : Twenty—eight schools conducted balloting under Phase 2B of the Primary One registration exercise on Wednesday.

The Education Ministry said this is the same number as last year.

Phase 2B is for children whose parents are volunteers, active community leaders or are directly connected with the school.

The balloting comes as the ministry announced changes to this year’s registration exercise — where Singapore citizens get priority over Permanent Residents (PRs) when balloting is required for school places.

Of the 28, only one school — CHIJ Our Lady of Good Counsel — conducted balloting for PRs.

Parents of three PRs were aiming for one vacancy at the school.

One of the parents said: "Thirty—three per cent chance was there, but I was in the remaining 66 per cent — I did not get it...It is okay actually, it is a fair game."

The next phase for Primary One registration — Phase 2C — will take place from July 30 to August 1.
