Baby hurt by metal object in cotton wool
SINGAPORE : A five-month-old baby was scratched by a needle-like object found in a piece of cotton wool last Wednesday.
The 2cm-long metallic object left scratches on Ms Isabel Fernandez’s son’s abdomen. Four other similar metal strips were found in the packet.
The cotton wool from Singapore baby product company Tollyjoy was pulled off shelves that same day.
“Imagine the damage I could have caused to my five-month-old baby if I had used it on his face or eyes,” said Ms Fernandez, who purchased the product from Kiddy Palace at Parkway Parade about two to three weeks ago.
According to Tollyjoy, the affected batch of cotton wool rolls had been sent for metal detection tests, with results indicating “there are no problems”.
“Nevertheless, the company views the matter seriously and will continue to strengthen its quality inspections on the product jointly with its third-party contract manufacturers to ensure that the product meets and/or exceeds consumers’ expectations,” the company said.
