HDB blocks in Boon Lay Drive chosen for Selective En bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS)
Six blocks of HDB flats in Boon Lay Drive have been chosen for the government's Selective En bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS).
They are blocks 167 to 172, comprising 650 units.
Under SERS, selected old sold flats are redeveloped to optimise land use.
Residents are then given the option to upgrade to new flats nearby with fresh 99-year lease.
The Housing and Development Board will build about 710 units of new 2-room, 3-room, 4-room and 5-room flats at Jurong West Central, a prime location next to Boon Lay MRT and Jurong Point, to re-house the flat owners
The current flats built in 1973 will be 43 years old by the time residents move to the new replacement flats at Jurong West in 2016.
Residents will get facilities such as a playground, fitness stations, and a community garden built into the replacement site
Other amenities such as shops, supermarkets, a bus interchange, parks and schools are also just a stone's throw away.
Eligible SERS flat owners will be invited to register for the new replacement flats in end-2012.
In addition to going door to door today to explain the SERS details to residents, HDB will also hold an exhibition on the SERS at Boon Lay from 5 to 11 Jan 2012 at the hardcourt next to Block 169 Boon Lay Drive.
The HDB said SERS has benefited 35,000 households across 76 sites since being introduced in 1995.
