TODAY launches weekly newspaper with The New York Times

SINGAPORE : MediaCorp publication TODAY will launch a new weekly newspaper this weekend in partnership with The New York Times.

Called the TODAY—New York Times International Weekly, the newspaper will showcase features on international affairs, social trends, arts and culture as well as business and finance, said Singapore’s leading media company MediaCorp.

The features from The New York Times will be handpicked by a team of TODAY editors and laid out by a team of designers from the New York Times News Service, it added.

The international weekly will be distributed as a pull out with Weekend TODAY and will also be available on the Singapore newspaper’s website,

MediaCorp said with this collaboration, TODAY joins an elite club of 30 newspapers from around the world which publish the international weekly.

The New York Times selects only one newspaper in each country for this collaboration, which dates back to 2002. Other partners include Le Figaro in France, The Observer in UK and El Pais in Spain.

Announcing the landmark deal, Mr Patrick Yong, managing director of MediaCorp Press, said: "We are extremely proud that The New York Times has chosen TODAY as their strategic partner in Singapore.

"This collaboration is a significant milestone for TODAY, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. It is an international endorsement of the newspaper’s credibility, reach and influence."

He said the initiative was part of the efforts to constantly improve the paper. "On the business front, the international weekly will offer advertisers a new platform and a new environment to reach their target audience," he added.

TODAY editor, Mr Walter Fernandez, said: "The international weekly will offer TODAY readers some of the best features from around the world. It’s about moving with the times, catering to the TODAY reader with a global perspective."
