Four youths who have contributed significantly to society and excelled in their professions, will receive the Singapore Youth Award or SYA this year.
Film-maker, Royston Tan, will receive the award along with three others this Sunday.
The acclaimed director who produced local hits 15 and 881, will be receiving the Singapore Youth Awards for Arts and Culture.
"This award means more to my parents because when I was much younger, my parents always tell me that 'you're a slow learner but its ok but everyone has your own purposes in this world so you just have to continue and believe in yourself."
Royston also uses his creative influence to support charitable causes, including raising funds for an old folks’ home.
The CEO of online marketing agency, PurpleClick Media, Leonard Tan, will receive the SYA for entrepreneurship.
His agency is the first in South East Asia to be accredited by both Yahoo! and Google.
Despite his busy schedule, Mr Tan gives talks in school to encourage and inspire youths to set up their own business.
Seventeen year old paralympic swimmer Yip Pin Xiu will receive an SYA for Sports and Adventure.
Born with muscular dystrophy, she overcame her physical limitations to win Singapore's first gold medal at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
"I'd tell all the aspiring young athletes to believe in themselves and stay positive because being negative is like having a barrier in front of you. I'm quite comfortable with my disability. I am happy with who I am. I can do things that many people cannot."
A scientist from A*STAR, Dr Loh Yuin Han, will receive an SYA for Science and Technology for his research achievements in human embryonic stem cells.
His mentor, Dr Ng Huck Hui, who was conferred the SYA for Science and Technology in 2005, will receive the Medal of Commendation.
He is responsible for significant advancements and breakthroughs in stem-cell research.
They will receive their awards and citations from Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean.
