Hari Raya to fall on Monday, July 28

SINGAPORE: The first day of the month of Syawal 1435H will fall on Monday (July 28), announced the Mufti of Singapore, Dr Mohamed Fatris Bakaram.

In a statement, he announced that “based on astronomical calculations, and in accordance with the criteria of the visibility of the crescent moon (imkanur rukyah) as agreed by the member countries of the Unofficial Meeting of Religious Ministers of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (MABIMS),” the new moon was at the horizon of Singapore for 14 minutes on Sunday (July 27) after the sun set.

The first day of Syawal is Hari Raya, or Eid al-Fitr, and is decided when the first crescent of a new moon is sighted.

“I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Muslims ‘Selamat Hari Raya Eidul Fitri’,” said the Mufti. “May Allah accept all our acts of worship and good deeds performed during the blessed month of Ramadan and may we be granted the bounty of meeting the holy month of Ramadan again next year.”

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also wishes all Muslims 'Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri'.
