Allied educator charged in court with indecent act

An allied educator has been charged under the Children and Young Persons Act today.
The 48-year-old man allegedly asked a 13-year-old female student to touch his private parts on 10 December 2010.
The educator and student were said to be from the same secondary school at the time of the offence.
An allied educator works with primary and secondary school teachers to enhance the teaching and learning of students in academic and non-academic areas.
The accused is expected to plead guilty next Tuesday.
If convicted, he could be sentenced up to five years' jail, fined up to $10,000 or both.
