SINGAPORE: ActiveSG, the national movement that aims to make sports more accessible to all Singaporeans regardless of age and abilities, will be officially launched this Saturday at Jurong West Sports and Recreation Centre.
The movement is part of the Vision 2030 sports blueprint.
Members of ActiveSG can expect new programmes like Masala Bhangra and Flippa Ball, a modified version of waterpolo.
Membership to ActiveSG is free, with access using any ID card like the identity card or People's Association membership card.
With all these benefits, Sport Singapore is confident ActiveSG will be a hit with users.
Lai Chin Kwang, chief of sports club group at Sport Singapore, said: "Using 2013 as an example, we are seeing about 13 million Singaporeans coming to our facilities to swim, to use the gym, to use our sporting halls and some of our sporting facilities.
“In the coming year ahead, we hope to have a 15-20 percent increase, targeting about 15-16 million Singaporeans to come and join."
Sport Singapore is looking at introducing an entire lifestyle concept and experience. Members could end the day with a barbeque by the pool with family and friends, after having some fun and games. - CNA/xq
