SINGAPORE: Some 800,000 Singaporean HDB households are to receive S$135 million worth of direct offset on their utilities expenses next month.
The offset comes in the form of GST Voucher - Utilities-Save (U-Save) rebates.
A Finance Ministry statement on Monday said eligible Singaporean households will each receive a GST Voucher - U-Save ranging from S$135 to S$195 in total, depending on their HDB flat type.
No sign-up is required for the rebates, added the statement.
The amount to be paid out in January includes the final tranche of the GST Voucher - U-Save Special Payment, which is a one-off extra GST Voucher payment announced in Budget 2013.
The other component in the amount is the regular GST Voucher - U-Save payout, which is made four times a year to eligible households.
The GST Voucher - U-Save is the household component of the permanent GST Voucher scheme that was introduced in Budget 2012.
The ministry said the GST Voucher - U-Save regular and special payments will provide substantial assistance to households.
Those living in one-room and two-room HDB flats can offset about six to eight months of utilities bills on average with the rebates.
Those living in three-room and four-room HDB flats can offset up to four months of utilities bills on average, it said. - CNA/xq
