7 in 10 Singaporeans are aware of PGP

Seven in ten Singaporeans across different age groups have heard of the pioneer generation package.

But of these, it turns out that only six in ten are able to name the benefits, such as subsidies for outpatient care and lifelong Medisave top-ups.

And even fewer - about half - feel more assured with the introduction of such a package.

These findings were shared by the co-chairpersons of the 22-member Pioneer Generation Taskforce - Senior Minister of State for Finance Josephine Teo and Senior Minister of State for Health Amy Khor on Monday.

They were taken from a survey of some 1,500 Singaporeans.

Mrs Teo says the awareness is higher among the pioneers - eight in ten have heard of the package.

Still, the taskforce has its work cut out.

Mrs Teo says their greatest challenge lies in making the benefits of the package tangible to pioneers.

By June, all pioneers will receive notification through letters.

And by September, they'll receive pioneer generation cards which they can start using at polyclinics.

The taskforce will also focuse on communicating the benefits effectively to the pioneers.

Information will be presented in simple, bite-size portions.

And they'll be presented in various languages, across different platforms such as hospitals, polyclinics and even getai - or stage performances in the heartlands.
