550 employers prosecuted for contravening EFMA in 2013
Some 550 employers were convicted for flouting the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act last year.
This figure was given by Acting Minister for Manpower Tan Chuan-Jin in his ministry's Committee of Supply debate today.
Speaking in Parliament, Mr Tan announced other initiatives for foreign workers.
For one, his ministry has drawn up a sample contract covering key employment terms.
The Migrant Workers' Centre has long been pushing for the use of standardised employment contracts for foreign workers.
This sample contract, which is available online, was done in consultation with the tripartite partners.
His ministry is also looking to widen the circumstances under which foreign workers can change employers.
This is to reduce the churning of experienced workers.
