SINGAPORE: Some 42,000 Punggol South residents are expected to benefit from a new wellness centre that has been opened in their neighbourhood.
The centre, located at Hougang Street 51, was officially opened by Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC Teo Chee Hean on Saturday.
The place is a centre for health services and social activities for people of all ages. Services range from traditional Chinese medicine by the Sian Chay Medical Institute to counselling by Silver Ribbon Singapore.
It also hosts several hobby and interest groups at its premises.
The centre, in support of the National Wellness Programme, also hopes to empower seniors to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.
Separately, some 300 polytechnic students fanned out across Singapore on Saturday to do their bid for the community.
It is part of this year's Polytechnic Forum - themed "The Power of Youth in Community Action".
Mr Teo also joined in one of the projects at Pasir Ris, where students tried to rekindle the "kampong spirit" through games and activities.
It is hoped these projects will encourage participants to engage the community through various avenues. - CNA/xq
