SINGAPORE : Forty servicemen have been appointed as military experts of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).

They will provide expertise in areas such as engineering, intelligence and military medicine.

The new recruits will join 71 others previously appointed.

These men have completed the rigorous Senior Military Experts Course (SMEC).

The men will fulfil different roles — Military Engineers ensure that tanks, aircraft and ships are operationally effective, Intelligence Experts analyse potential threats, while Medicine Experts provide medical services to the soldiers.

Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Defence and National Development, Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, said the scheme will strengthen the SAF’s capabilities.

These Military Experts have also been deployed overseas to help coalition forces in places like Afghanistan. The SAF provided engineering support for the Weapon Locating Radar (WLR), which detects incoming enemy rockets.
