3 rescued from fire in Hougang flat & sent to hospital

Three people were rescued from a flat that was on fire in Hougang on Tuesday morning.

One of them is a 17-year-old male, who was rescued from the kitchen toilet and suffered from smoke inhalation and cuts to his hands. 

The other two are women - one is in her 60s and the other is in her 30s. 

They were rescued from the bedroom and suffered from smoke inhalation. 

The three casualties were sent to Singapore General Hospital. 

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted at about 9.15am about the fire on the third-floor unit of Block 619, Hougang Avenue 8. 

Firefighters, who encountered black smoke, used breathing equipment and forced their way into the flat. 

They put out the fire in about 20 minutes. 

The damage was confined to the living room.
