2013 Transport Master Plan charts transport road map for next 15 years
The government has outlined three main thrusts for improving public transport.
This involves creating more connections, providing better service and also support for a liveable and inclusive community.
Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew listed these goals when he announced a Land Transport Master Plan today which refreshes the one launched five years ago.
The rail network will be expanded every year till 2021, with more to come after till the rail network has been doubled to 360km by 20-30.
Some 40 new bus services will be introduced by 2014.
Mr Lui says the aim is to have 75 per cent of peak travel made by public transport -
and 85 per cent of trips on public transport that are less than 20km completed under an hour.
Dedicated cycling paths will be expanded to over 700km.
Mr Lui also said that the Master Plan will build more lifts at key overhead bridges.
It will give the elderly and those with special needs more time to crosd roads.
