SINGAPORE: Some 1,600 foreign domestic workers, employers and agencies got together to celebrate the contributions of domestic helpers at Singapore Polytechnic on Sunday.
The event, which is in its third year, aims to promote respect and care among foreign domestic workers and employers.
Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Manpower Hawazi Daipi emphasised that everyone have a part to play to protect and enhance the well—being of these workers.
This include the government, employers, helpers, agencies, and non—governmental organisations (NGOs).
Mr Hawazi said that responsible employers who engage in open communication will also have happier and more productive helpers.
"In many ways, they are not only helpers but also members of our extended family. To all domestic helpers in Singapore, I would like to thank you for your contributions to the many families in this country," he added.
