SINGAPORE: 1,187 specialist cadets graduated as specialists of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) on Friday.

Minister of State for Trade and Industry & National Development, Lee Yi Shyan, reviewed the graduation parade at the Pasir Laba Camp.

Speaking at the parade, Mr Lee urged them to make every effort to spend time to engage their soldiers.

"Spend time with your soldiers and talk to them. Understand their challenges, as you also help them understand what the SAF expects of them," he said.

He emphasised the important role that SAF specialists play as leaders and commanders as well as the significant and expanded responsibilities that they would bear in an increasingly complex environment.

"For you to make tough decisions on the ground, you will require not just deep expertise in specialised skills, but a good understanding of the big picture and mission imperatives. The training you received and the values instilled in you will help you excel in your field, overcome adversity, and serve with honour and pride," Mr Lee said.

The parade marked the completion of the 22—week Specialist Cadet Course where the trainees underwent rigorous and realistic training to develop leadership and combat skills, and deepen their understanding of the other vocations in the SAF.
