SINGAPORE: After 10,000 hours of community service accumulated over five years, the efforts of 11 volunteers from youth organisation Heartware Network have paid off.
Courts Asia has partnered with the organisation by contributing five dollars for every hour of community service done by its volunteers.
A total of S$50,000, which will be used to exchange items from Courts, will go towards helping needy families.
Law Minister and Member of Parliament for Nee Soon GRC K Shanmugam was present to meet one of the beneficiaries from his ward.
Mr Karyawan Sinar Widjoyo and his family will receive new beds, study tables and even a new desktop for his daughter.
The 48-year-old had to downgrade to an unfurnished three-room flat in Yishun after he lost his job.
The family was also given grocery vouchers.
A total of 10 needy families will benefit from this initiative. - CNA/ec
