SINGAPORE: The Workers’ Party candidate for the Punggol East by—election, Lee Li Lian said that she has managed to reach out to 100 per cent of HDB blocks in the ward in the nine days of campaigning.
Speaking to reporters to sum up her campaign, she said: "It’s been intense but memorable. I met many residents and they are warm and friendly but I’m not going to take that for granted. I’m not going to speculate any results. We’ll wait for Polling Day."
She said that the campaign to woo voters has been physically challenging with most days starting at 7:30am and ending at about 10pm.
But she has managed to achieve her target of reaching out to 100 per cent of HDB blocks compared to the 2011 General Election when she managed to cover 60 per cent of the blocks in the ward.
Ms Lee said: "I’ve done the 40 per cent which I did not do the last time and together with the help of party members, we’ve completed 100 per cent. I realised that I can do a lot more and like I’ve said I’ve done my best and if there’s still time, definitely can do more and need to constantly strive to do more."
She added that setting up a Facebook page has been helpful as she’s been able to communicate better with residents.
When asked if the party will merge the Aljunied—Hougang Town Council with Punggol East Town Council if she wins, she said that she would reveal the details if she’s elected into Parliament.
