1 hour of free internet use a day at public libraries for Singaporeans & PRs
Singaporeans and Permanent Residents who're 50 years and above can have one hour of free Internet access at the public libraries a day.
This is being offered by all 24 public libraries of the National Library Board (NLB), as part of efforts to encourage active ageing and lifelong learning.
Users can access NLB's eResources, surf the internet or check email at the multimedia stations.
The initiative was announced on Thursday by Mr Sam Tam, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and Culture, Community and Youth, at the 30th anniversary celebration of Bukit Merah Public Library.
From Friday, 100 iPads will also be available for loan at Bukit Merah Public Library.
The loan service is an extension of a pilot scheme launched earlier this year at Bedok Public Library.
Library members can use the iPad to read eBooks, newspapers and magazines, and listen to music from NLB's eResources collection.
Members have to register and attend a workshop to learn how to use the device, as well as basic IT skills.
