Iskandar Rahmataka Kovan double murder suspect

It was one of the most gruesome murders Singapore had seen in a while, but what made it more troubling was that the murder suspect was a cop, and a senior one at that!

Once described as “the pride of Bedok North Neighbourhood Police Centre”, senior staff sergeant Iskandar Rahmat (centre) is alleged to have murdered Tan Boon Sin, 66, and his son, Tan Chee Heong, 42, on July 10. The elder Tan was found dead in the living room of his terrace house at Hillside Drive, while his son was run over and dragged one kilometre from the house to a taxi stand outside Kovan MRT station.

The 14-year veteran was arrested in Johor Baru after a 54-hour manhunt and has since been remanded. Iskandar, 34, is expected back in court on January 21 for a pre-trial conference. If convicted, he faces the death penalty.
