In some of the worst violence since the revolution, the ongoing ethnic and religious tensions between Egypt's Muslim majority and the minority of Coptic Christians boiled over, after false rumours spread that a group of Copts had kidnapped a girl who wished to convert to Islam. The violence left 12 people dead, and saw the Coptic Saint Mary Church (above) set on fire.
