More weeks of protest in Tahrir Square once again ended in days of violence in the run-up to the elections, as crowds demanded that Egypt's ruling generals hand over power and expressed their anger over the arrest and detention of blogger Alaa Abd El Fattah - a prominent figure in the revolution who became central to the ongoing critique of the new military regime. Alaa was accused of inciting violence against the military during the October 9 violence.
