The star of a GAP commercial made the news for the wrong reasons. When in a rage, Travis attacked its owner's friend, Charla Nash. During the attack in September 2009, Travis gouged out her eyes, and ate part of her face and her fingers.
Although the owner, Sandra Herold had tried to stop the attack by stabbing the chimp with a kitchen knife, the attack was only halted after police arrived and shot the chimp dead.
Miraculously, Nash survived the attack and gave an interview on TV about it. Her family also sued Ms Herold, alleging that despite the chimp being tame enough to star in a commercial, and was fed and taken of by Ms Herold as a surrogate son of sorts, the chimp was still prone to outbursts of animalistic behaviour.
