The loss of his S$16,000 election deposit in the 2011 General Election has not deterred Singapore Democratic Alliance’s (SDA) Desmond Lim from contesting the SMC again.

Instead, the SDA chief said the experience boosted his determination to come back bigger and better.

"Ordinarily, another person in my shoes would throw in the towel after the forfeit, and swear off politics. But for me, that incident boosted my determination to come back bigger and better the next round," the 45-year-old said in a statement.

The SDA said Mr Lim's 'Never Say Die' attitude has earned him a place in the hearts of many Punggol East residents.

Mr Lim was the only candidate to lose his election deposit in 2011, after garnering 4.45 per cent of the votes in Punggol. Candidates who fail to get 12.5 per cent of votes cast will forfeit their deposit.
