It was supposed to be an ad warning against problem gambling but the ad by Singapore's National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) ended up becoming the butt of jokes after World Cup hosts Brazil’s humiliating 1-7 defeat to Germany in Wednesday’s (July 9) semi-final.

The commercial features a group of boys discussing who will triumph in the World Cup. It ends with one of them, Andy, saying he hopes Germany wins because "my dad bet all my savings on them."

When the ad aired during half-time - Germany had already taken a 5-0 lead - it prompted a flood of memes on social media, with some praising the father’s choice bet.
