On the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Americans from all walks of life gathered in memory of the lives lost
For the same day the past 12 years following the horrific events of 9/11, thousands of Americans across the country have gathered at Ground Zero to remember their loved ones and those who perished trying to save them. Yesterday, the memorial ceremony commenced with the singing of the “Star-Spangled Banner” and a moment of silence at 8:46am, when the first plane struck the North Tower. The second moment of silence was at 9:03am, when a second plane crashed into the South Tower, and the third moment of silence at 9:37am, when Flight 77 struck the Pentagon.
Almost 3,000 people lost their lives that day.
At the memorial, Obama addressed the crowd and encouraged them: "Let us have the courage like the survivors and families here today to carry on, no matter how dark the night or how difficult the day."
