The halfback was hurt during Australia's Rugby Championship win over the Springboks last September and underwent surgery to reconstruct his right knee.

It was a big blow for Genia who had assumed the Wallaby captaincy after skipper David Pocock was also sidelined by a knee injury.

Genia said he was returning a week earlier than planned but would only play the first half against the Force in their Super 15 clash in Brisbane on Saturday.

"Hopefully from then on I will be playing the full 80 (minutes)," he told reporters.

"I know I have done the hard work in getting my body right. It has actually been fortunate in a way because it has allowed me to have a full pre-season.

"I am refreshed after being out of the game for so long. I am happy about my fitness and my head space."
