Rolf Harris in court on indecent assault charges
Veteran Australian artist and entertainer Rolf Harris arrives at Westminster Magistrates' Court in central London on September 23, 2013. Harris faces nine counts of indecent assault on two girls aged under 16 and four counts of making indecent images of children.
His lawyer indicated Harris will plead not guilty to the alleged offences, as well as to four charges of making indecent images of children.
The 83-year-old spoke only to confirm his name, address in Bray, Berkshire and date of birth during the hearing at London's Westminster Magistrates Court.
The case has now been referred to Southwark Crown Court, with the next hearing set for October 7.
He was released on bail on condition that he does not contact prosecution witnesses, lives at his home address and does not spend time with anyone under the age of 18 without being accompanied by someone over 21.
Harris is charged with six counts of indecent assault relating to a girl aged between 15 and 16 for incidents dating from April 1980 to April 1981 and three relating to a girl aged 14 from April and June 1986.
He also faces four counts of making indecent images of children between March and July 2012.
Harris, who moved to England from Australia in 1952, has been a popular figure on British television screens for decades and painted an 80th birthday portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in 2005.
