Xinhua opened a gallery in Paris, the first of a number planned for major world cities.
The gallery will host photographic and art exhibitions and similar venues are planned in other cities such as New York, London, Madrid and Hong Kong.
Inaugurated late on Thursday by Jiang Liu, Xinhua's director of European bureaux, and Agence France-Presse (AFP) chairman and chief executive Emmanuel Hoog, the gallery's first exhibition features around 50 photographs from the AFP archives.
