Today as we commemorate the 60th anniversary of Queenstown since Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953, we also celebrate the lives of extraordinary Queenstown residents.
Happy 60th Anniversary, Queenstown!
Known for its many ‘first’s, Queenstown is the home to the first HDB flats, the first polyclinic, the first neighbourhood shopping centre and more. Once a bustling town, this old housing estate has unfortunately lost its glow by the 80s due to the lack of developments.
In the last two decades, many iconic landmarks in this first satellite town in Singapore have also bitten the dust. Examples include the Queensway Cinema (located just outside the MRT station), Tah Chung Emporium and the Forfar house (or more commonly known as Chap Si Lao in Hokkien). Despite so, to many, it seems like yesterday that they were there having fun.
Follow us for a trip down memory lane as we walk into the lives of the Queenstown residents, including xinyao singer-songwriter Liang Wern Fook and Capital 95.8 DJ Huang Shu Jun.
